Bio Background |
The protein encoded by this gene catalyzes the conversionof 5, 10-methylenetetrahydrofolate to 5-methyltetrahydrofolate, aco-substrate for homocysteine remethylation to methionine. Geneticvariation in this gene influences susceptibility to occlusivevascular disease, neural tube defects, colon cancer and acuteleukemia, and mutations in this gene are associated withmethylenetetrahydrofolate reductase deficiency. |
