The German start-up PiNa-Tec was founded in 2019. The company is located in Hamburg, in the Innovation Village on the campus of the German Electron Synchrotron (DESY). The company specializes in innovative reagents for life science research, with the goal: to facilitate workflows in the laboratory with innovation.
The developments made for this purpose are based on biological and nanotechnological products that are combined into ready-to-use products.

Products
PIA-PINK is a ready-to-use staining reagent for immunological detection methods such as Western blot or dot blot. PIA stands for Particle and Immuno Assay, PINK corresponds to the color of the reagent due to the use of red gold nanoparticles.
PIA-PINK reagents contain secondary antibodies conjugated with gold nanoparticles. They can be used directly for immunological detection and are ready-to-use. Detection is achieved by visible enrichment of the red gold nanoparticles bound to the antibody.
The PIA-PINK reagent thus represents an alternative to conventional detection reagents in which secondary antibodies are conjugated with enzymes or dyes.
The usual time to staining result of an immunoassay is often five hours upwards. With PIA-PINK the waiting time is reduced to one hour! The result is visible, consistent and quantitative. PIA-PINK reagents make it easy to verify protein identity and integrity. Purification steps can be optimized faster by accompanying sample drawing and staining of spotted samples, and quantifications can be performed without interference.

Application of the PIA-PINK reagent
The reagents are tested for use in Western blot and dot blot procedures and are performed in only one step.
PIA-PINIK can be used for staining nitrocellulose and PVDF. During the blocking procedure of the free protein binding sites on the membrane, the PIA-PINK ready-to-use reagent is mixed with the desired primary antibodies. The blocking reagent can be removed and PIA-PINK can now be added to the membrane.
Product specifications
Per 1 ug of primary antibody (1ul 1 mg/ml) 10 ml of PIA-PINK ready-to-use reagent are needed. PIA-PINK is therefore supplied in liquid form, in ready-to-use 10 ml fillings, and can be used immediately. The PIA-PINK reagent corresponds to the amount needed to stain a mini-gel (8 x 10 cm) or midi-gel (13 x 13 cm).
The staining result
On the blot membranes, the result is visible as a consistent, red-colored accumulation of the conjugate on the target protein.
The result can be documented with commercially available cameras or gel documentation systems (Ponceau Red setting) and quantified with appropriate software.
