Avidity
Avidity LLC – Innovative Biotin-Tagging-Technology
Established in 1996, Avidity LLC is headquartered in Colorado (USA). Avidity's patented AviTagTM sequence enables researchers around the world to connect molecules through one of nature's strongest molecular interactions. Based on the extraordinary affinity of biotin for avidin or streptavidin, our partner develops peptide tags and molecular biological products. Avidity is constantly developing new products and offering new tools to the scientific community. Scientific progress always comes first.
Innovative Avidity AviTagTM Technology
AviTagTM was a patented biotin tagging technology that was discovered from a Directed Evolution approach called "Peptides-on-Plasmids". The Directed Evolution approach identified a number of peptide sequences that can be biotinylated by the BirA enzyme of E. coli. The best of these sequences has been named AviTag™. The E. coli enzyme BirA biotinylates the AviTagTM with 15 amino acids twice as fast as its natural substrate, the biotin carboxyl carrier protein (BCCP). The enzymatic biotinylation of proteins using AviTagTM technology is preferred to chemical biotinylation of proteins, as the BirA enzyme gently and highly specifically marks the lysine residue of AviTagTM. Before AviTagTM, the smallest biotin-accepting domain consisted of 75 amino acids.
Avidity LLC strives to broaden its scientific horizon and is studying the use of bioluminescence - as found in deep sea organisms - to make the products even more useful in science. In addition, Avidity is working to develop a new generation of highly mobile, simple and incredibly powerful diagnostics by combining an extremely sensitive optical sensor with luciferase-based assays.
Avidity LLC develops and sells molecular affinity tools for connecting molecules. The innovative AviTag™ technology uses a highly targeted enzymatic conjugation of a single biotin to a unique peptide tag with 15 amino acids using the biotin ligase (BirA) from E. coli. The AviTag™ sequence is GLNDIFEAQKIEWHE. It is oriented to streptavidin-coated surfaces and offers an ideal presentation for molecular binding interactions. The scientific advantages of Avidity's AviTag technology have attracted attention. Currently, AviTag technology is used by eight of the world's top ten pharmaceutical companies and by researchers in over 30 countries.
