Aves Labs

Since 1995 Aves Labs, Inc. is a global provider of polyclonal chicken antibodies (IgY) and custom peptide synthesis for life science research. Aves Labs can generate antibodies against customer-supplied recombinant proteins or against synthetic peptides from protein sequences identified by Aves’ proprietary Immunogenicity Algorithm ®.

Moreover they also produce neural cell marker antibodies, epitope tag antibodies, GFP antibodies and a variety of support reagents (e.g., blocking reagents, immunoprecipitation reagents, etc.).

Aves Labs pays particular attention to sustainability and animal-friendliness, therefore their antibodies are not derived from blood serum that is obtained by terminally bleeding the animal. Aves Labs relies exclusively on antibodies present in the egg yolks laid by hens.

In 2012 Aves Labs has once again received an accreditation from the Association for the Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) for its animal program that ensures animal welfare.

The polyclonal antibody production based on eggs from chickens has some advantages:

Animal-friendly: Avoiding terminal bleeds of animals
Yields are higher in chickens: One rabbit yields about 0.8 grams of IgG equivalent to 8 eggs
Immunostaining is easier to perform: Greater flexibility for double- or triple-immunostaining protocols with existing rabbit and/or mouse antibodies
No restrictions for applications: Aves Labs chicken antibodies are used in the same applications as mammalian antibodies, including western blots, immunohistochemistry and immunoprecipitation
Low Costs: Costs about half the price of rabbit antibodies
