IgEasY - Chicken Polyclonal Antibodies from AffinityImmuno

The standard chicken egg IgY polyclonal antibody service is a 35-day immunization program followed by a 14-day egg retrieval. After this time there is the option to continue IgY production. Our partner is flexible about the vaccination schedule and use serum and pus to control the timing of egg retrieval. This procedure ensures maximum quality and a high yield.

Most mammalian proteins show increased immunogenicity in chickens due to the phylogenetic distance and thus maximize antibodies with higher affinity. This also makes the production of antibodies to preserved mammalian proteins more successful in chickens than in mammals. In addition, when compared to mammalian IgG, chicken IgY show less cross-reactivity with mammalian proteins other than the immunogen. Another advantage of IgEasY is the lower background: Since IgY and IgG differ structurally in the Fc region, IgY does not bind to IgG Fc receptors and causes fewer false positive staining. Chicken antibodies are not bound by Protein A, Protein G, or most anti-mammalian secondary antibodies, allowing for greater flexibility in reagent selection with multiple labeling schemes. A continuous source of IgY antibodies is also provided: chickens regularly lay eggs and thus supply an almost unlimited number of IgY antibodies. A hen can produce ten times as many antibodies as a rabbit in the same period of time.

White and brown Leghorn chickens are ideal for antibody production and lay approximately 300 eggs per year. Each egg yolk contains approximately 100 mg IgY antibodies and 0.5 mg to 2 mg specific IgY antibodies. The antibodies are sent to customers in the form of total IgY or purified affinity.
