Description: Vadadustat (PG-1016548; AKB-6548) is a titratable and orally bioavailable hypoxia-inducible factor prolyl hydroxylase (HIF-PH) inhibitor that induces endogenous erythropoietin synthesis and enhances iron mobilization. It is under development for the treatment of anemia. Current treatment of anemia in chronic kidney disease (CKD) with erythropoiesis-stimulating agents can lead to substantial hemoglobin oscillations above target range and high levels of circulating erythropoietin.
