Description: Folic acid (also known as Vitamin M; Vitamin B9; folate) is a one of the B vitamins and is necessary for the production and maintenance of new cells, for DNA synthesis and RNA synthesis. Folate, distinct forms of which are known as folic acid, folacin, and vitamin B9, is essential for the body to make DNA, RNA, and metabolise amino acids, which are required for cell division. As humans cannot make folate, it is required from the diet, making it an essential vitamin. The recommended adult daily intake of folate in the U.S. is 400 micrograms from foods or dietary supplements.
