pirfenidone

Description: Pirfenidone (formerly AMR69; S7701, AMR-69; S-7701; trade name: Pirespa; Pirfenex; Deskar, Esbriet) is a potent inhibitor for TGF-beta production and TGF-beta stimulated collagen production with anti-fibrotic and anti-inflammatory properties. It has been used as a medication for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. It reduces production of TNF-alpha and IL-1beta, and also has anti-fibrotic and anti-inflammatory properties. Pirfenidone is an anti-fibrotic drug for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). It works by reducing lung fibrosis through downregulation of the production of growth factors and procollagens I and II.
