oxymetazoline-hcl

Description: Oxymetazoline HCl (Rhinofrenol; Afrin; Ocuclear; Drixine; Nezeril; Sinerol; Hazol; Nafrine; Navasin), the hydrochloride salt of oxymetazoline, is an imidazole-based alpha1 and alpha2 adrenergic receptor agonist. It is a topical decongestant that has been mainly used to relieve nasal discomfort caused by colds, allergies, and hay fever. Oxymetazoline has higher affinities at alpha 1a-subtype than at alpha 1b- and alpha 1d-subtypes. Oxymetazoline is a weak agonist at alpha 1a-adrenoceptors, and has no intrinsic activity at the other subtypes. Oxymetazoline is a full and potentagonist at 5-HT1A, 5-HT1B and 5-HT1D receptors and a partial agonist at 5-HT1C receptors.
