6-Aminocaproic acid (EACA), a monoamino carboxylic acid, is a potent and orally active inhibitor of plasmin and plasminogen. 6-Aminocaproic acid is a potent antifibrinolytic agent. 6-Aminocaproic acid prevents clot lysis through the competitive binding of lysine residues on plasminogen, inhibiting plasmin formation and reducing fibrinolysis. 6-Aminocaproic acid can be used for the research of bleeding disorders^[1][2]. In Vitro: EACA (20-180 ug/mL) inhibits fibrinolysis in plasma of Asian elephants, with an effective concentration of 61.5 ug/mL^[2]. In Vivo: EACA (20-100 mg/kg; a single p.o.) inhibits fibrinolysis at all doses tested in dogs^[3].
EACA (20-100 mg/kg; a single p.o.) is rapidly absorbed (T_max=1 h) and eliminated rapidly in dogs^[3].
