NEUROFILAMENT L

Recognises neurofilament L (NF-L) the most abundant of the three nurofilament proteins (NF-H NF-M and NF-L). Neurofilaments are 10nm or intermediate filaments found specifically in neurons with especially high concentrations along the axons where they appear to control axonal diameter. Defects in NF-L are the cause of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease types 1F and 2E characterised by loss of muscle tissue and touch sensation.
