Background	The Collagen-Induced Arthritis (CIA) rat model uses injections of incomplete Freund's adjuvant (IFA) emulsified with heterologous type II collagen to induce autoimmune-mediated arthritis. Unlike type II collagen, immunization with type I collagen cannot induce autoimmune-mediated diseases, making it an ideal control for autoimmune mediated arthritis models.
