Biological Activity	Fully biologically active when compared to standard. The ED50 determined by a cell proliferation assay using human uMbilical vein endothelial cells(HUVEC) is less than 4 ng/ml.
Description	Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor is a potent growth and angiogenic cytokine. It stimulates proliferation and survival of endothelial cells, and promotes angiogenesis and vascular permeability. Expressed in vascularized tissues, VEGF plays a prominent role in normal and pathological angiogenesis. Substantial evidence implicates VEGF in the induction of tumor metastasis and intraocular neovascular syndromes. VEGF signals through the three receptors, fms-like tyrosine kinase (flt 1), KDR gene product (the mouse homolog of KDR is the flk-1 gene product) and the flt4 gene product.
Endotoxin Level	Less than 1 EU/ug as determined by LAL method.
Formulation	Lyophilized from a 0.2 um filtered concentrated solution in 20 mM Tris + 300 mM NaCl, pH 8.8.
Molecular Weight	19.4 kDa disulfide-linked homodimeric protein, consisting of two 165 amino acid polypeptide chains.
Reconstitution	Centrifuge vial prior to opening. Add sterile distilled water or aqueous buffer to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/ml. Further dilutions should be made in appropriate buffered solutions.
Storage and Stability	This lyophilized preparation is stable at 2-4C, but should be kept desiccated at -20C for long term storage. Upon reconstitution, the preparation is stable for up to one week at 2-4C. For maximal stability, apportion the reconstituted preparation into working aliquots and store at -20C to -80C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
Specificity	> 2.5 x 10E5 IU/mg.
