Description
This native Human Eosinophil Peroxidase is a dimer consisting of both heavy and light chain. It is one of the most abundant granule proteins in human eosinophils and functions as an oxidant. The enzyme is released at sites of infection or allergen stimulation to mediate lysis of bacteria, protozoa, or parasitic worms. Eosinophil Peroxidase catalyzes oxidations of various substrates by hydrogen peroxide. Together with other leukocyte-derived enzymes, such as Myeloperoxidase (MPO), it plays an important role in the pathogenesis of asthma by mediating oxidative events that lead to the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS).
