Description	Myoglobin (MB) is a single-chain globular protein of 153 amino acids, containing a heme group in the center around which the remaining apoprotein folds. It has eight alpha helices and a hydrophobic core. MB is the primary oxygen-carrying pigment, found in skeletal and cardiac muscle cells. It is capable of reversibly binding molecular oxygen and enhancing the rate of oxygen diffusion through the muscle cell.
