Description
Prostatic Acid Phosphatase is a phosphomonoesterase, an enzyme that cleavesphosphate groups from other molecules during digestion. Different organs producedifferent forms of acid phosphatase. The serum levels of which can be used as adiagnostic for disease in the corresponding organs. This form, human Prostatic AcidPhosphatase, is specific to human prostate. Acid Phosphatases are stored in lysosomesand function upon fusion with endosomes. The acidic environment of the endosome isrequired for function.
