Background	The protein encoded by this gene is a member of theimmunophilin protein family, which play a role in immunoregulationand basic cellular processes involving protein folding andtrafficking. The protein may have cis-trans prolyl isomeraseactivity, and binds to clathrin heavy chain and heat shock protein72. This gene is found to be deleted in Williams syndrome, and theorthologous gene in mouse is essential for fertility and homologouspairing in male meiosis.
