Background	The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the SMADfamily, which transduces signals from TGF-beta family members. Theencoded protein is activated by bone morphogenetic proteins andinteracts with SMAD4. Two transcript variants encoding differentisoforms have been found for this gene.

Nuclei were counterstained with DAPI (blue) (10 ug/ml, 10 min).SMAD9 immunoreactivity is localized to cytoplasm and nucleus significantly.
