Description |
Boster Bio Anti-Synaptophysin/SYP Picoband™ Antibody catalog # A05049. Tested in IF, IHC, ICC, WB applications. This antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat. |
Background |
Synaptophysin, also known as the major synaptic vesicle protein p38, is a protein that in humans is encoded by the SYP gene. It is mapped to Xp11.23. This gene encodes an integral membrane protein of small synaptic vesicles in brain and endocrine cells. The protein also binds cholesterol and is thought to direct targeting of vesicle-associated membrane protein 2 (synaptobrevin) to intracellular compartments. Mutations in this gene are associated with an X-linked form of cognitive disability. |

Polyclonal |
Concentration |
Adding 0.2 ml of distilled water will yield a concentration of 500 μg/ml. |
Contents |
Each vial contains 4mg Trehalose, 0.9mg NaCl, 0.2mg Na2HPO4, 0.05mg NaN3. |
Immunogen |
A synthetic peptide corresponding to a sequence at the N-terminus of human Synaptophysin/SYP, which shares 91.3% amino acid (aa) sequence identity with both mouse and rat Synaptophysin/SYP. |
Purification |
Immunogen affinity purified. |
Cross-reactivity |
No cross-reactivity with other proteins. |
Storage |
Store at -20˚C for one year from date of receipt. After reconstitution, at 4˚C for one month. It can also be aliquotted and stored frozen at -20˚C for six months. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. |
Reconstitution |
Add 0.2ml of distilled water will yield a concentration of 500ug/ml. |
Gene Full Name |
synaptophysin |
Molecular Weight |
38 kDa |
Protein Function |
Possibly involved in structural functions as organizing other membrane components or in targeting the vesicles to the plasma membrane. Involved in the regulation of short-term and long-term synaptic plasticity. |
Subcellular Localization |
Synaptic vesicle membrane. Multi-pass membrane protein. Synaptosome. |
Tissue Specificity |
Ubiquitous in adult tissues. Detected in osteoblasts of the perichondrium in the developing limb of 12-week old embryos. Isoform 1 is detected in fetal brain, lung, kidney and testis. Isoform 2 is detected in fetal testis, and at much lower levels in fetal brain, lung and kidney. |
