Bio Background |
Proteins of the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family areinvolved in the breakdown of extracellular matrix in normalphysiological processes, such as embryonic development, reproduction, and tissue remodeling, as well as in diseaseprocesses, such as arthritis and metastasis. Most MMP's aresecreted as inactive proproteins which are activated when cleavedby extracellular proteinases. This protein is expressed in humanepidermis and it has a role in cellular proliferation as well asmigration and adhesion to type I collagen. Multiple transcriptvariants encoding distict isoforms have been identified for thisgene. |
