Background	Histamine is an organic nitrogen compound involved in local immune responses as well as regulating physiological function in the gut and acting as a neurotransmitter. Histamine triggers the inflammatory response. As part of an immune response to foreign pathogens, histamine is produced by basophils and by mast cells found in nearby connective tissues. Histamine increases the permeability of the capillaries to white blood cells and some proteins, to allow them to engage pathogens in the infected tissues.
Immunogen	Histamine conjugated to BSA
Form	Serum containing 0.1% sodium azide
Specificity	Absorption with 10-100 ug histamine per ml diluted antiserum abolishes the staining, while noradrenaline, 5-HT, VIP, glucagons and histidine do not.
Working Dilution	1:50-1:100 (PAP), 1:15 - 1:30 (immunofluorescence microscopy)
Storage	2-8C for immediate use, or at -20C (aliquot)
