Sequence
Amino acid sequence derived from human VEGF 121 isoform (P15692-9) (Met 1-Arg 147) was expressed.
Activity
Measured in a cell proliferation assay using human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC). The ED50 for this effect is typically 0.5-2 ng/ml.
Protein length
The recombinant human VEGF consists of 121 amino acids and has a predicted molecular mass of 14 kDa. The apparent molecular mass of the human VEGF 121 is approximately 17 and 19 kDa in SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions due to glycosylation.
Preparation method
Baculovirus-Insect Cells
Purity
(38.3+58.1) % as determined by SDS-PAGE
Formulation
Lyophilized from sterile 100 mM Glycine, 10 mM NaCl, pH 7.4.
Molecular weight
14 kDa
Usage notes
Always centrifuge tubes before opening. It is recommended to reconstitute the lyophilized Human VEGF121 protein in sterile ddH2O not less than 100ug/ml, which can then be further diluted to other aqueous solutions.
Storage instructions
Lyophilized Human VEGF121 protein product should be stored desiccated below -18C. Upon reconstitution, the protein should be stored at 4C between 2-7 days and for future use below -18C. For long term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA). Please prevent freeze-thaw cycles.
Shipping
The product is shipped at ambient temperature.

Background
Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), also known as vascular permeability factor (VPF) and VEGF-A, is a potent mediator of both angiogenesis and vasculogenesis in the fetus and adult. It is a member of the platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF)/vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) family and often exists as a disulfide-linked homodimer. VEGF-A protein is a glycosylated mitogen that specifically acts on endothelial cells and has various effects, including mediating increased vascular permeability, inducing angiogenesis, vasculogenesis and endothelial cell growth, promoting cell migration, inhibiting apoptosis and tumor growth. VEGF-A protein is also a vasodilator that increases microvascular permeability, thus it was originally referred to as vascular permeability factor.
