Description |
ABCB5 is a protein encoded by the ABCB5 gene which is approximately 138, 6 kDa. ABCB5 is localised to the cell membrane. It is involved in CDK-mediated phosphorylation, the removal of Cdc6 and the transport of glucose, bile salts, metal ions and amine compounds. This protein falls under the ATP-binding cassette transporter superfamily of integral membrane proteins. It participates in ATP-dependent transmembrane transport of structurally diverse molecules ranging from small ions, sugars, and peptides to more complex organic molecules. ABCB5 is expressed in the skin. Mutations in the ABCB5 gene may result in malignant conjunctival melanoma. STJ96976 was developed from clone 11A2 and was affinity-purified from mouse ascites by affinity-chromatography using specific immunogen. This antibody detects endogenous ABCB5 proteins. |

Short Description |
Mouse monoclonal against ABCB5 |
Tissue specificity |
Expressed by CD133-expressing progenitor cells among epidermal melanocytes (at protein level). Widely expressed with specific expression in pigment cells. Highly expressed in several malignant tissues: highly expressed in clinical melanomas, with low expression in normal skin. In melanoma, marks malignant melanoma-initiating cells (MMIC), in which clinical virulence resides as a consequence of unlimited self-renewal capacity, resulting in inexorable tumor progression and metastasis. Also highly expressed in a number of leukemia cells. Expressed in basal limbal epithelium. |
