It inhibits arginine vasopressin V2 receptor with an IC50 of 3 nM. Tolvaptan was approved for use in the treatment of hyponatremia. Tolvaptan is vasopressin receptor 2 antagonist used to treat hyponatremia (low blood sodium levels) associated with congestive heart failure, cirrhosis, and the syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone (SIADH).
