As a local anesthetic, Tetracaine is used to numb the eyes, nose, or throat, but it mayalso be applied to the skin before starting an intravenous to decreasepain from the procedure. Tetracaine acts by blocking voltage-sensitive release of Ca2+ from sarcoplasmic reticulum. Tetracaine is also an inhibitor of Na+ CP type X alpha and Na+ CP type IV alpha.
