Description: Clopidogrelsulfate is a potent and orally bioavailable, thienopyridine class ofantiplatelet agent. It is approved for use to inhibit blood clots incoronary artery disease, peripheral vascular disease, cerebrovasculardisease, and to prevent myocardial infarction (heart attack) andstroke. Clopidogrel works by irreversibly inhibiting a receptor calledP2Y12, an adenosine diphosphate (ADP) chemoreceptor on platelet cellmembranes. Clopidogrel acts by inhibiting the ADP receptor on plateletcell membranes. It is a prodrug which requires CYP2C19 for activation.
