N-Methylserotonin

N-Methylserotonin (NMS) is the N-methylated derivative of serotonin with similar activity. Studies have identified N-Methylserotonin as a potential active constituent that contributes to the serotonergic activity of black cohosh plants. It is a powerful agonist of the 5-HT2A serotonin receptor which is involved in the regulation of several physiological processes, such as sleep, appetite, and mood. NMS binds to the 5-HT2A receptor and activates it, resulting in the release of serotonin, which then binds to other receptors and exerts its effects on the body. It has been found to modulate the release of several neurotransmitters, hormones, cytokines, and growth factors.
