Application Note:	WB: Use at an assay dependent dilution. By blotting against the reduced protein the antibody identifies bands at 58 kDa and 53 kDa as well as smaller breakdown products. A minimum working antibody dilution of 1/1000 is determined by blotting a tissue cell lysate with an alkaline phosphatase conjugated secondary antibody and BCIP/NBT as the substrate. A starting dilution of 1/5000 of 18-272-195489 is recommended for chemiluminescent substrates. Not tested in other applications. Optimal dilutions/concentrations should be determined by the end user. Localization:	Secreted Proteins of the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family are involved in the breakdown of extracellular matrix in normal physiological processes such as embryonic development reproduction and tissue remodeling as well as in disease processes such as arthritis and metastasis. Most MMPs are secreted as inactive proproteins which are activated when cleaved by extracellular proteinases. The enzyme encoded by this gene lacks the signal sequence found in other MMPs suggesting that it may function intracellularly. The substrate for the enzyme has not been identified but it is thought that the protein may play a role in reproductive processes. This protein is encoded by the MMP22 or MMP23B gene which is part of a duplicated region of chromosome 1p36. 3 which includes a second gene MMP23A which is almost identical.

Enzyme Regulation:	Inhibited by TIMP2 (By similarity).
Subcellular Location:	Membrane; Single-pass type II membrane protein. Cytoplasm perinuclear region. Note=A secreted form produced by proteolytic cleavage seems also to exist (Probable).
Tissue Specificity:	Predominantly expressed in ovary testis and prostate.
